What Is Stress?

Nowadays stress is a very common problem among Students, Youngsters, Teenagers, etc.

Basically, stress can be defined as the condition or circumstance that can disturb the normal physical and mental health of a person.
According to various doctors stress is a physical response to events that make you feel upset due to which you can not able to concentrate on your work properly.

For example : 
• The stress of work pressure

• Failing to perform better in competitions

• The stress of Career concern

Types Of Stress

Basically, we can categorize stress into Four different types :

1. Positive Stress

It is a type of stress which can be positive when the situation offers an opportunity to an individual to achieve something in his/her life.
It is a great source of motivation.

2. Negative Stress

It is a type of stress which can be negative when an individual has to face some physical, social and mental problems.

3. Acute Stress

Stress may be acute if it is short term stress.
It is a kind of stress which does not harm too much.

4. Chronic Stress

If stress continues for a long period of time and can affect the life of an individual badly then it can become a serious health risk and it is called chronic stress.

 Symptoms of Stress

• Lack of concentration

• Short temper

• Nail biting

• Sweating

• Insomnia

 Causes of stress

• Work underload

• Work overload

• Lack of good working conditions

• Lack of social support

• Career concern

Who are stressors?

Those factors (may be living or non-living) that cause stress are basically called as stressors.
It can be categorized into two different types :

1. Physical Stressors
Various types of stressful situations that we face in our routine situations are immensely minor and easy to cope with. We are not disturbed physiologically or psychologically. This type of stress is caused by physical stressors.

2. Cognitive Stressors
There are many stressors that can affect our lives which are cognitive in nature (related to mental health) which is called cognitive stressors.

What is Distress?

Stress that continues without relief can lead to a condition that is generally called distress which means a negative stress reaction.

Symptoms of Distress

• Headaches

• Upset stomach

• Unbalanced Blood Pressure

• Body pain

Stress Management : 

There are six strategies of stress management which are :

Strategy -1

Avoid unnecessary stress

 You may be surprised to see that there is a number of stressors in your life that you can eliminate.
 1. Learn how to say "NO"
 2. Avoid people who stress you out
 3. Take control of your environment
 4. Avoid hot-button topics
 5. Pare down your to-do list.

Strategy -2

Alter the situation
 If you can not avoid a stressful situation then try to alter it. Although, it involves changing the way you communicate with others and operate in your routine life.
1. Express your feelings
2. Manage your time better
3. Be more assertive
4. Be willing to compromise.

Strategy -3

Adapt the stressor

 If you can not change the stressor then change yourself by
1. Reframe problems
2. Look at the big picture
3. Adjust your standards
4. Focus on the positive
5. Adjusting your attitude.

Strategy -4

Accept the things you can not change

 There are various sources of stress that are unavoidable. In such cases, the best way to cope up with stress is to accept all the things as they are. Sometimes acceptance of these things may be difficult but it is easier than railing against a situation you can not change.
1. Do not try to control the uncontrollable
2. Look for the upside
3. Share your feelings
4. Learn to forgive.

Strategy -5

Make time for fun and relaxation

 If you regularly make time for fun and relaxation then you will be in a better place to handle life's stressor.
1. Hustle and bustle your life
2. Set aside relaxation time
3. Connect with others
4. Do something enjoyable
5. Keep yourself always happy.

Strategy -6

Adopt a healthy lifestyle

You can easily overcome stress by strengthening your physical health.
1. Do exercise on a regular basis
2. Take a healthy meal
3. Reduce the intake of caffeine and sugar
4. Avoid alcohol & drugs
5. Take the necessary sleep.

How to overcome stress?

Stress can be reduced by various sources such as :

• Drinking more water

• Eating an adequate amount of food

• Make new friends

• Be positive

• Burnout

• Always try to remain happy

• Try to overcome bad situations

• Talk to your parents about your problem.

Major concern:

Stress is gradually increasing day by day among students because of exams tension, businessmen because of profits and losses expectations, housewives because of diseases, etc.
